D APPLY GRAMMAR
Unit 1(“The Show”) of the original Scenario Book One: Beginning to Use English Grammar in Context, pages 2-28 (27 pages)
Who It’s For:(Teachers & Helpers of) (High) Beginning Learners
Why It’s Useful: In “the olden days,” each Unit of a serious grammar text started out with a Presentation of relevant Examples in Context, with a Comprehension Check. After each Grammar Explanation came a brief, invented exercise—and perhaps a more “relevant-to-now” one. Progressing from controlled to expressive, exercises that compared and summarized previous grammar points followed. The Unit ended with actual exchange of info and thoughts incorporating the structures and patterns that had just been taught/learned. And that’s precisely what’s offered here, all in service of “Statements with Be.
