Who They’re For: Beginning Language Learners & New Readers of English. Teachers & Helpers.

Why You Need Them: Lower-level language learners and readers might prefer working with 1/3 (9 letters) of the English alphabet at a time. Introducing both upper-case (capital) and lower-case letters together may speed up recognition of the forms.

 What You’ll Do:

  • To use as Caller Cards for Bingo or Matching Cards for Lotto, make at least one set each of upper-case letters A-I, I-Q, R-Z—and of lower-case letters a-i, i-q, r-z.   Note that each card includes hand-printing guidelines, pronunciation of its letter name, and symbols for the sound(s) it may stand for. You may or may not choose to print out identifying Card Backs on the other side.

  • For each of six games, make as many copies as you need of the 8 variants of each 9-box Bingo/Lotto Grid. These may be printed out one– or two-sided (flipped on the long edge, horizontally). Note that tips for learning and gameplay can be cut from the side of each page.

  • Customize procedures to each unique group. Teach and learn the English alphabet through game prep, play, and follow-up.
