Who It’s For: Who It’s For: Learners Continuing to Polish Reading Comprehension + Writing Skills With Information & (Simulated) Realia

Why You Need It: Like segments of many language-skills teaching / learning texts, this chapter features material on recreation, entertainment, and other spare-time activities.  There’s fictitious narrative as well as advertising and other instructional material.

What You’ll / They’ll Do:

[1] With the color Chapter Opener, discuss the kinds of fliers, notes, cards, tickets, and other papers that might offer ideas for free-time activities. Then in Part One / The Story, read, react to, and think about what might be included in a story called “The Party” in various cultures.

[2] In Part Two / Practical Reading & Writing, peruse mock-ups of entertainment ads, handbills, and other papers related to entertainment events. Fill in a pretend ticket-order form, check, and envelope address.

[3] In Part Three / the Rules of Writing, review word, sentence, and paragraph capitalization / punctuation in a short business letter.  Go over unusual spellings of several consonant sounds.  Apply these to sentence writing from dictation.  Then write your own paragraph about a way to have fun.

[4]  In Part Four / Communicating in Writing, analyze the format and content of a typical printed invitation.  Use given and other phrasing to complete (imaginary and later real) invites, responses, and thank-you notes.
